Gastehuis - has close ties with the history of the Paarl Rock Brandy Cellar, since the latter was founded by Abraham Pieter de Villiers in 1856. The original Paarl Wine and Brandy Company was situated across the road from the Zomerlust guest house and legend has it that an underground pipe linked the maturation casks in the cellar to a tap, where guests were entertained in grand style. Today this area has been restored into a cosy pub, Die Kraan.
