~ Makhutswi River ~ Northern Province ~ South Africa ~
Reflecting boldly innovative decor that retains the rich textures and forms of Africa. Makalali is an up-market safari lodge indisputably occupying a class of its own. Four luxurious camps are positioned along the shady course of the Makhutswi River.
Each camp has six spacious, double rooms, each with an indoor / outdoor bathroom en-suite, private deck and raised timber sala. Constructed on stilts beneath the ample overhang of jackal-berry trees, Makalali's unique sala rooms are ideal for relaxing game viewing. At each camp there is a pool, boma and enclosed dining and lounge area. In grafting Makalali, only indigenous materials have been used and the result is one of authenticity and luxury.
A unique fusion of Africa's most exotic recipes and traditional cooking skills has earned the lodge an international reputation for its delectable cuisine.
Game drives in open Land Rovers afford guests the thrill of a rare safari experience. Lion, elephant, white rhino, leopard, cheetah and the rare sable antelope are all encountered in the magnificent 15 000 hectare Makalali conservancy.
