De Oude Herberg Tulbagh Guest house accommodation rooms

De Oude Herberg

~ Tulbagh ~ Cape Town ~ Western Cape ~ South Africa ~

Tulbagh lies in a beautiful ‘hidden valley', surrounded by the Winterhoekberg, Witsenberg and Saronsberg mountains. The Tulbagh Valley is at the western end of the famous Route 62, which meanders through all the Winelands areas of the Western Cape and Karoo.

De Oude Herberg Guest house is situated in Church Street, Tulbagh and has been providing bed and breakfast accommodation since 1875. Translated from Afrikaans as “The Old Inn”, De Oude Herberg Guest house has, over the years, won several awards and accolades. These include winning the prestigious AA Travel Accommodation Award, in the Heritage Accommodation category, two years in succession.

In 1969 an earthquake resulted in the collapse of all the historic buildings in Church Street. These buildings were rebuilt in the Cape Dutch style, creating 32 National Monuments, all in one street; Tulbagh became famous ‘overnight'!

Tulbagh is a place to come and enjoy the beautiful countryside and magnificent scenery. To take gentle walks, or hike up the mountains, horse ride through the valley and take trips to vineyards, fruit and olive farms. Visitors are welcome at most farms to taste their produce and purchase their products. In the town there are museums, gift & antiques shops, art galleries and various restaurants to suit all tastes. In the immediate vicinity, we have at least sixteen wine estates. They include such well-known farms as Twee Jonge Gezellen, Tulbagh Winery and Rijk's.
