The farm derives its charming name from the legendary colony of water tortoises that was found on the land in the 1800's. Skilpadvlei has been in the hands of the Joubert family since 1917.  Today, fourth generation Willie Joubert upholds the proud family tradition of harnessing the rich potential of the land with a dedicated commitment to quality.

Skilpadvlei is a fully operational farm, with 60 of the 78ha under vineyards and also includes six self catering guest cottages, wedding and conference facilities as well as a restaurant and wine tasting area. This versatile farm is fast becoming one of the most popular places to visit in Stellenbosch.

Skilpadvlei is the ideal getaway for nature lovers with the surrounding vineyards and trees being the natural habitat of a variety of birds. You can also fish black bass in the farm dam, or take a hike between the vineyards and enjoy all the panoramic views that the farm offers.

For the kids there are plenty of open spaces to play in and get rid of all that extra energy. There are also a variety of tortoises in the petting park.
