We had the dream of doing something different. To be precise - something very different in a place that is also very beautiful. We, Anja and Johst Weber, together with the five godfather's of our children are enthusiastic about wine. Among us are two wine academics and the rest of us have a vivid combination of diverse professional backgrounds.

In 1996 we made our dream a realisation. We acquired 'Springfontein', a farm in one of the most magnificent nature reserves in the world, the Cape Floral Kingdom in South Africa. Situated near Stanford and on a north-facing slope our 500 hectares are ideal for the cultivation of fine wine.

Just five kilometres away from the Atlantic is the most southern region of the Walker Bay wine growing district. In undertaking this endeavour, we were well aware of the risk posed by the powerful and unrelinquishing south-easterly winds associated with such close proximity to the Atlantic coast.

Nevertheless, we took the biggest challenge of our lives and combined wine cultivation with an ecologically orientated tourist initiative. Extensive planning, daring investments, much creativity and great sacrifice went into our exciting pioneer project. The eight-year long building up period constituted hard work but nevertheless was very succesful.
